Ok. So I have a big ego. My title at my work is “Interactive Media Manager”, so when I saw Microsoft at NAB 2007 introducing their new “Interactive Media Manager” software, I wanted to sue them. But then I realized…oh, it’s just a title. I can’t copyright that. Oh well. Which makes me think…Will Microsoft now require that I pay royalties to them because my title is their software title? You never know with Microsoft! Anyhow. Based on SharePoint 2007, Microsoft introduced an extension to SharePoint specifically targeting people in the multimedia industry including film makers, game designers and web site developers. Interactive Media Manager comes with the following: #2 - Media Viewer - You can view media, time code, annotations and playback controls. #3 - Media Annotator - Groups of people can collaborate on a media file and annotate changes to it. #4 - Media Cart - A shopping cart for your media. The product is server based and provides a web-based interface for accessing and interacting with media files. I have 2 issues with this product: #1 - It requires SharePoint to work For more information check out http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/apr07/04-15IMMPR.mspx or www.microsoft.com/immUntil the next blog! |

Hey, if you have any questions about IMM let me know. I thought I would just note that Interactive Media Manager is content agnostic. Meaning that we can import any type of media and for most workflows we can play back any type of media that has a corresponding web based player:
Silverlight (WMV - VC1), Flash (ON2 - H264), Quicktime (MPEG - H264), Real, etc…
Also, it’s a very good thing that it is built on the SharePoint platform. You wouldn’t want Microsoft to deliver a collaboration platform (SharePoint) and then come out with another collaboration tool (IMM) that doesn’t have the full capabilities of the main platform would you? I’m good natured in this regard so don’t take this statement the wrong way, but from a MSFT employee perspective in some ways you are “Damned if you do and damned if you dont” :)
I would love to hear any feedback on the solution as well as any questions you might have.
Thanks!
