WWDC 2007

I watched the WWDC 2007 Keynote made by, of course, “Mr. I Only Wear Black T-Shirts and Jeans” Steve Jobs on my iMac last night (until 2:30am…I’m so dedicated). It was a very uplifting, funny and energetic keynote. I like how this guy presents. He will be big one day! ;-)

So, Mr. Jobs introduced many new things at WDDC 2007 (World Wide Developer Conference) .

Below is a short summary of some of the cool items (at least I thought they were cool) that was shown in the keynote.

Mac OS X Leopard

1) New desktop. More “3D” like. Full transparency on the windows (kind of like Vista).

2) 3D Dock With Reflections

3) Stacks – This is the ability to “stack” multiple items in your dock, kind of like you do with photographs in Aperture or Lightroom.

4) Spaces – You can open up applications, organize them by category and then create a space for those applications. Then you can create another space and open up some more applications there. Arrange your desktop differently there. Then you can switch between spaces. Neat concept. I can see myself having a “editing space” for when I’m editing and a “web development” space when I’m doing web design / development and then just switching between my spaces.5) Time Machine – This is really cool. With a push of a button, you can backup everything automatically to an external drive. No big deal there. However, you can then search for files “back in time” for anything that was deleted and “bring that file back to the future”. They should have called it “Back to the Future”.

6) Finder – The redesigned the Finder, in all honesty, to look more like Vista now. Still pretty cool.

7) Bootcamp – Yes. It’s now built in. Use it to boot into Windows XP and run applications at native speed. Then switch back to Leopard.

8) There are many more features you can learn about here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/

New Apple Website

If you have not visited http://www.apple.com/ yet, go there.

You will see a completely redesigned web site (I mean completely…not just the front page). Try the top search. It’s really neat. As you type, it starts looking up and giving you results. Works just like Spotlight.

Safari 3.0 On Windows And Mac

This one I don’t get. Safari on Windows? Why? Why would Apple want to compete with Microsoft on browsers? What’s the point? Maybe Steve is trying to get PC folks comfortable with “Mac Software” so that they can transition over to Mac easier?

I don’t understand why you would want to start a war of browsers with the big guy when you are not making any money on it.I can see why iTunes (people purchase stuff there), but Safari?

Then again, I think Steve Jobs is a bit smarter then I am, so I’m sure he has his reasons.

I downloaded it already and installed on both my iMac and Dell M90.It looks better on the Windows then on the Mac. On the Mac, you will never be able to tell it’s 3.0 just by looking at it. Only after you start messing with it (I love they way you can rearrange the tabs and drop a tab out and into it’s own window).

Safari Development on iPhone

The version of Safari on the new iPhone is the full version, so Steve is encouraging all of us to develop applications for the web and for the iPhone.

Your web application will automatically work on both since it’s the same exact full engine on iPhone that is on the PC.

If you know CSS, HTML, JavaScript, then you can already start developing applications for the iPhone.

The iPhone is due out on June 29.  Leopard won’t be out until October; however, they gave out a beta to play with in WWDC 2007.

Now, my big question is…Steve….please…when is the new iMac coming?

Cheers!
